Lemongrass
Cymbopogon flexuosus, also called Cochin grass, East-Indian lemongrass or Malabar grass, is a perennial grass native to India. Its essential oil is produced by steam distillation of the freshly cut leaves. Lemongrass is commonly taken orally, applied directly to the skin, or inhaled as aromatherapy for many different conditions. But there is limited scientific research to support any of its common uses.
In food and beverages, lemongrass is used as a flavouring. For example, lemongrass leaves are commonly used as “lemon” flavouring in herbal teas. In manufacturing, lemongrass is used as a fragrance in deodorants, soaps, and cosmetics. Lemongrass is also used in making vitamin A and natural citral.

Distillation We in association with some farmers from the state of Odisha, cultivate high citral yielding variety of the grass, and distill it in good conditions. Thus we can ensure unadulterated and undiluted oil.
Lemongrass might help prevent the growth of some bacteria and yeast. Lemongrass also contains substances that are thought to relieve pain and swelling, reduce fever, improve levels of sugar and cholesterol in the blood, stimulate the uterus and menstrual flow, and have antioxidant properties.
Uses
- People can add lemongrass essential oil to a carrier oil, such as jojoba or coconut oil, and massage it into the skin.
- Adding several drops of the essential oil to boiling water and inhaling the steam through the nose, keeping the eyes closed, and covering the head with a towel is another way to use it.
- People can also add lemongrass essential oil to an oil diffuser.
- Adding one or two drops in green tea is also good.
Health Benefits
Lemongrass is used as a folk remedy for a number of digestive problems, ranging from stomach aches to gastric ulcers. Lemongrass is also a common ingredient in herbal teas and supplements for nausea. Although most herbal products use dried lemongrass leaves, using the essential oil for aromatherapy may provide similar benefits.
Lemongrass is traditionally used to treat high cholesterol and manage heart disease.
Lemongrass oil lowered blood sugar levels. It also changed lipid parameters while increasing HDL (good) cholesterol levels. A popular use for many diluted essential oils is for relaxation and massage. One study looked at the effects of lemongrass oil when people use it as a massage oil. The researchers found that the lemongrass oil massage reduced diastolic blood pressure but had no effect on their systolic blood pressure or pulse. They said it could have a “harmonizing effects” on the nervous system.
